The four house bases, in detail
This is the science. Skip to the section that matters to you — or read it all and become unbearable at the next knit night.
Vapour — 80% Lyocell / 20% Merino, fingering, 100g · 400m
Lyocell (sold under the Tencel brand by Lenzing) is regenerated cellulose from sustainably-managed eucalyptus pulp. The closed-loop solvent process recycles 99% of the chemicals it uses, which is why it's the fastest-growing fiber in the regenerated-cellulose category. Paired with 20% superwash merino for memory and stitch definition.
Pros: silky hand, faint sheen, holds saturated dye, breathable.
Watch: heavier than 100% wool — drape falls more than balloons.
Shop the line: Bone · Sea Glass · Ember · Inkwell.
Cabin — 75% Merino / 15% Cashmere / 10% Nylon, sock weight
The classic MCN. Merino brings warmth and elasticity, cashmere brings the halo, nylon means your socks last more than one season. Sourced from RWS-certified non-mulesed flocks in Patagonia.
Shop the line: Cream · Moss · Rust · Slate.
Air — 50% Hemp / 30% Cotton / 20% Linen, DK weight
A summer-weight DK plant-fiber blend. Hemp grows on a fraction of the water cotton needs and improves the soil where it's planted. The cotton softens the hand; the linen adds dry-crisp texture.
Pros: breathable, antibacterial (hemp), gets softer with washing.
Watch: less elastic than wool — gauge on Air locks in tighter.
Shop the line: Linen · Salt · Persimmon · Pine.
Recycle — 100% Recycled cotton, worsted weight
Post-consumer cotton — t-shirts, denim, factory offcuts — sorted by color, mechanically shredded, re-spun. Zero virgin cotton, zero new dye load. The flecks are the source garments showing through.
Shop the line: Driftwood · Oat · Brick · Algae.
